May Queen and Maypole Dancing

This was an old tradition that was re-introduced in the village in 1979 by Ruth Gerring and Jackie Harris. The first May Queen was Caroline Terry.

Mayday Celebrations c1956/57

Queen Veronica Peverill; attendants Joanna Ody, Ruth and Diana Sharpus, Sue Axford, Pam Hutt (from Gainfield), Daphne Wheeler, with pageboy Fay Nicholson.

Sue Hobbs crowned the Queen and Maureen Clarke and Valeria Cripps organised the event. Basil Sharpus provided the horse and cart to take the Queen and attendants to the Village Green.
